The General Manager (GM) of Vic’s Motohaus Performance Shop is responsible for overseeing all aspects of shop operations, including performance services, retail parts sales, staffing, customer experience, and financial performance. This role ensures the shop operates efficiently, profitably, and in alignment with Vic’s Motohaus brand standards and growth strategy.
The GM will lead a team of technicians, service advisors, and sales staff while driving operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and revenue growth.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Oversee daily operations of the performance shop, including service, fabrication, tuning, and parts sales
- Ensure efficient workflow, scheduling, and turnaround times for all customer vehicles
- Maintain high-quality workmanship and compliance with performance and safety standards
- Monitor shop productivity, labor efficiency, and service KPIs
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and safety laws
Staffing & Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, and retain technicians, service advisors, and sales staff
- Develop team schedules, assign workloads, and monitor performance
- Lead team meetings, performance reviews, and ongoing training initiatives
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, innovation, and customer satisfaction
- Resolve employee issues and maintain a positive workplace environment
Customer Experience
- Ensure exceptional customer service and client retention
- Act as escalation point for customer concerns and complex service issues
- Provide accurate estimates, timelines, and communication throughout service process
- Build long-term relationships with performance enthusiasts, clients, and partners
Financial Management
- Manage shop P&L, budgeting, and forecasting
- Monitor revenue streams including labor, parts, tuning, and performance upgrades
- Control expenses, labor costs, and inventory levels
- Analyze financial reports and implement strategies to improve profitability
Inventory & Vendor Management
- Oversee inventory of performance parts, tools, and supplies
- Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and performance brands
- Ensure timely ordering and proper stocking of high-demand products
- Negotiate pricing and manage supplier agreements
Sales & Business Development
- Drive revenue growth through service upsells, performance packages, and retail sales
- Implement marketing initiatives and promotions in collaboration with leadership
- Identify new business opportunities (fleet, partnerships, motorsports clients)
- Support brand expansion and customer acquisition strategies
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain OSHA and industry safety standards within the shop
- Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials and equipment
- Keep shop compliant with environmental and automotive regulations
- Maintain equipment, tools, and facility standards
Education & Experience Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Automotive Technology, or related field (preferred)
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in automotive, performance, or powersports industry
- 3+ years in a management or leadership role within an automotive shop or dealership
- Proven experience managing staff, operations, and financial performance
- Background as a technician, builder, or service advisor strongly preferred
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Deep knowledge of automotive performance, aftermarket parts, and shop operations
- Financial acumen (budgeting, forecasting, P&L management)
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
- Problem-solving and decision-making under pressure
- Proficiency in shop management software, POS systems, and CRM tools
Preferred Certifications
- ASE Certification (Automotive Service Excellence)
- Performance tuning certifications (HP Tuners, EFI Live, etc.)
- OSHA Safety Certification
- Manufacturer or aftermarket performance training certifications
Physical & Work Environment
- Ability to work in a shop environment (noise, fumes, standing for extended periods)
- Occasional lifting of heavy equipment or parts
